New guidelines developed for clinical trials involving artificial intelligence interventions
As part of an international collaboration, Professor Mel Calvert and colleagues (including Professor Jon Deeks) have built on the guidelines developed for clinical trial protocols (SPIRIT 2013) and clinical trial reports (CONSORT 2010) to create guidelines specifically for artificial intelligence (AI) health interventions in clinical trials.
The main papers for both the SPIRIT-AI and CONSORT-AI guidelines have been co-published in the BMJ, The Lancet Digital Health and Nature Medicine, by which these key medical journals are endorsing the use of these guidelines in relevant studies. The aim is to improve transparency and the quality of publications reporting results from research involving AI interventions.
